The Mission of The Jack County Office of Emergency Management
Responsibilities & Services
Emergency Management is the occupation and coordinated effort that involves local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as, volunteer organizations, businesses, schools, and others, assist communities impacted by a disaster. Following an integrated emergency management framework, these entities help citizens and their communities prepare for, respond to, recover from, and implement measures to eliminate or reduce the effects of natural or man-made emergencies and disasters.
The goal at Jack County's Office of Emergency Management is to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the effects of disasters - including natural disasters, such as wildfires, floods, or tornadoes, and man made problems such as chemical spills.
The County Judge is charged by statute with the responsibility for emergency management planning and operations. Most departments within Jack County have emergency functions in addition to their normal duties and play key roles in our emergency operations strategy. All departments work together to coordinate a service and prepare for an emergency or disaster.
The County is also privileged to have a Local Emergency Planning Committee (L.E.P.C.). This is a voluntary organization dedicated to improving responses to emergencies in Jack County. The membership is made of leaders from public safety agencies, business, and industry.
Emergency Management also manages the strategic stockpile program for Jack County in conjunction with Faith Community Hospital which is a program of the Dept of State Health Services. This is a program that will provide medicine to the citizens of Jack County if and when a pandemic event breaks out or a terrorism biological attack hits our country.
